This past year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Fox Theatre’s reopening. It’s been wonderful to look back on three fabulous decades of bringing the best of Broadway right here to St. Louis and we are so grateful for your support over the years. Thanks to you, we are now in the midst of an incredibly successful 30th season. From the re-imagined Les Miserables, to the smash hit Book of Mormon, and the wondrous War Horse, this season has certainly reflected Broadway's best.
Whenever we consider shows for the Fox, you are first on our mind. We want to ensure that each experience here is enjoyable. We know that for some of you, what your children see at the Fox helps cultivate their love for the arts. That’s important to us. You are the top priority and always the greatest factor in what we choose to present on our stage. We are so excited for the shows that will visit the Fox Theatre in our 2013-2014 U.S. Bank Broadway Series and we can’t wait for you to join us at the Fox for this fabulous season.
EVITA * October 8-20, 2013
We are thrilled to partner once again with our friends at Dance St. Louis to present the brilliant revival of Evita. In 1976, two young, British musical theater composers recorded a concept album about a famous Argentinean President and his wife. That album became a show, and that show went on to become a worldwide hit, with hugely successful runs in the West End, on Broadway, and on tour. That President’s wife was of course, Eva Peron, one of the most polarizing figures in modern political history. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita features some of musical theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," and "High Flying, Adored." This hit Broadway production directed by Tony-Award® winning director Michael Grandage and choreographed by Tony Award winning choreographer Rob Ashford, lives up to the legend.
SISTER ACT* November 19-December 1, 2013
Nuns have a long and illustrious career in the theater. From the Sound of Music to Late Night Catechism to Doubt to Nunsense (which you can see this summer at the Muny), the sisterhood has provided loads of inspiration for writers. And last season on Broadway, an unconventional sister wowed audiences and joined the distinguished Nun club.
In Sister Act, Sister Deloris Van Cartier is a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voice as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. Many of you may fondly remember the film. Well, the musical is absolutely sensational. The show is composed by eight time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, well known for his scores to Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice!
ELF The Musical * December 17-29, 2013
ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, an orphan child who grows up at the North Pole believing he’s an elf. Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth and embark on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Already a modern day holiday classic, ELF just completed its second successful Broadway engagement and is now coming to St. Louis. This is a show sure to make your holidays merry and bright. ELF has retained the incredible humor from the film, but also transformed into a wonderful musical with heart. We are thrilled to be launching a partnership with Grand Center to present ELF at the Fox this holiday season.
WE WILL ROCK YOU * March 18-30, 2014
It’s time to break out those lighters. In the spirit of Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages comes a musical direct from London’s West End. The smash hit musical that has played to over 15 million people worldwide. Now in its 11th year in London, We Will Rock You is finally coming to the U.S. The show features the greatest hits of the legendary British rock group Queen. This hilarious, multi-award-winning and record-breaking phenomenon features such Queen hits as “Another One Bites The Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are The Champions,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and of course, the title song “We Will Rock You.” I promise that this show will have you singing along! We Will Rock You is a party you certainly don’t want to miss!
ONCE * April 8-20, 2014
Once is a delicate and unforgettable love story about going for your dreams, not living in fear, and the power of music to connect us all. This enchanting musical won eight Tony Awards® last year, including Best Musical, and has become one of the hottest tickets in New York. It is a unique and original theater experience, featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments on stage. I am so excited for this show to make its way to St. Louis. I’ve seen it four times in New York- and it’s one of the more moving experiences I’ve had in the theatre. With a gorgeous score by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and featuring the Oscar Award winning song “Falling Slowly,” Once will captivate you, break your heart, and make you smile.
The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber * April 29-May 11, 2014
Since bursting onto the Broadway scene some forty years ago, Tony®, Grammy® and Academy-Award-winning composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has brought to the stage a host of musical blockbusters that have taken the theatre world by storm. This season, we are thrilled to present a production that celebrates the work of this prolific and visionary composer. The biggest hits from his inspirational and diverse works have been fashioned into a theatrical evening of music that is, like the songs themselves, unforgettable. Included in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber are the songs and musical excerpts from The Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Aspects of Love, and Sunset Boulevard. Plus, for the very first time, U.S. audiences will be treated to selections from Love Never Dies – Webber’s long-awaited sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.
