The Fabulous Fox Partners with the Great Godfrey Corn Maze in Celebration of Broadway's Biggest Blockbuster WICKED

Published by Sara at 10:03 AM under

In a wicked twist, the Great Godfrey Maze and the Fabulous Fox Theatre are joining forces to promote the magic of the untold story of the Witches of Oz. The 2015 Great Godfrey Maze has been designed to highlight the return of WICKED to St. Louis. After breaking box office records in 2015, WICKED returns the Fabulous Fox Theatre December 9, 2015 – January 3, 2016. Tickets for the WICKED Great Godfrey Maze are available onsite beginning September 4, 2015. Single tickets for WICKED at the Fox will go on sale at a later date.

The Great Godfrey Maze will celebrate the grand opening of its sixteenth A-MAZE-ING season with a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 6 pm. The Great Godfrey Maze will continue to be open on the weekends through October 31, 2015.  The maze is located in Glazebrook Park in the heart of Godfrey, IL, at 1401 Stamper Lane, less than 40 miles from downtown St. Louis. Beginning on October 2, an additional haunted maze will open after dark on Friday and Saturday evenings.

“The Village of Godfrey is extremely pleased to be partnering with the Fabulous Fox and WICKED on this year’s Great Godfrey Maze. It is a thrill to be working with such great institutions,” said Village Mayor Michael McCormick. “It is exciting to have the national tour back in St. Louis at the Fabulous Fox and even more exciting to bring a piece of it to Godfrey.”

The 7-acre maize adventure is cut into a graphic image of WICKED’s iconic artwork. The maze consists of one winding yellow brick trail cut into the images of Glinda and Elphaba in their famous friendly whisper.

Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, WICKED, winner of over 100 international awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony® Awards, is the untold story of the witches of Oz.  It is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz.  One – born with emerald-green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

WICKED has been declared “A Cultural Phenomenon” by Variety and “The Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly.  Since its New York premiere over a decade ago, WICKED has been performed in over 100 cities in 13 countries around the world (U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, The Philippines, and Mexico) and has thus far been translated into five languages: Japanese, German, Dutch, Spanish, and Korean.  The musical has grossed nearly $4 billion worldwide and has been seen by over 50 million people across the globe. WICKED currently has four productions around the world, in New York, London, a U.K. Tour, and a North American National Tour.

Five Fabulous Questions: Sylvia Woods

Published by Sara at 10:50 AM under Five Fabulous Questions

We would like to introduce you to our Summer Marketing Intern, Sylvia Woods. The Missouri native has spent the past eleven years in the education setting as office manager and has decided to pursue her passions and switch careers.  She recently graduated from Lindenwood University with her master’s in communications with an emphasis in digital and multimedia studies.  In addition to the Fabulous Fox internship, Sylvia is also an intern writer and graphic design artist for Delux Magazine, a local publication. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, reading, writing and traveling. Sylvia is also a photographer.  Her work can be viewed at www.geminiphotographyandgraphicdesign.com. Read about Sylvia’s photography adventures and other personal experiences on her blog http://geminiphotandgd.blogspot.com/We caught up with Sylvia and asked her our five fabulous questions.

What are you most excited about becoming a Fox marketing intern?

The Fabulous Fox was always a big deal to me as a little girl.  Coming from a large family, I was only able to enjoy a few shows during my youth so this internship is quite an honor.  During my internship, I look forward to learning about what all is involved behind the scenes and what marketing strategies can be attributed to each shows success.

What was the first Broadway show you ever saw?

The first Broadway performance I saw and can actually remember is THE LION KING.  This show was colorful and full of life! The entire family attended and everyone loved it.  It was fun singing along and the energy of that show was priceless!

If you could see any performance at the Fox, what would you choose?

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE or THE COLOR PURPLE.  It was tradition to watch IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE during the Christmas season in my family.  The line I remember the most is, “Every time a bell rings an Angel gets his wings.”  THE COLOR PURPLE is one of those movies I can never get tired of watching.  A stage performance of THE COLOR PURPLE would be epic!

What show are you most excited about this season at the Fox? Why?

The show I’m most excited about this season at the Fox is MATILDA.  I work with children and I love children.  MATILDA has telekinetic ability and power is intriguing to me! The story of MATILDA reminds me of Annie; two girls in a difficult situation who triumph. Annie and MATILDA are both funny and a bundle of joy to watch! MATILDA is a show both my daughter and I can enjoy. Hopefully my daughter will have the same sentiment for MATILDA that I have for Annie.

What do you think is the most Fabulous thing about St. Louis?

The most fabulous thing about St. Louis is it embraces art at almost every turn and the Fox packs plenty of it! There is so much to do here and many events and activities are free or reasonably priced for the entire family to enjoy.
