More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it's back, and mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, West Side Story soars as the greatest love story of all time and it’s only perfect that it opens at the Fabulous Fox Theatre on Valentine’s Day!
Seeing any show at the Fox is a fabulous experience, but seeing West Side Story at the Fox is a great way to show that special someone how much you care. Here’s a guide to why West Side Story makes the perfect date for you and your Valentine:
The Music
There’s a reason the song “One Hand, One Heart” is played at so many weddings, but it’s not the only romantic tune you’ll hear in West Side Story. The show features timeless Bernstein and Sondheim classics like “Tonight,” “Maria,” and “Somewhere” and there’s nothing like seeing them performed live.
The Story
Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story tells the tale of two “star-cross’d lovers” who fall for each other against the wishes of their families and friends. Despite the odds stacked against them, Tony and Maria fight to stay together. Their devotion to each other inspires a change of heart in those who fought to separate them. What could be more romantic?

Something for Everyone
At its heart, West Side Story is a great romance, but it offers much more than a beautiful love story. If you’re a fan of action movies, you’ll enjoy the exciting rivalries and intense fight scenes between the Sharks and the Jets. If you enjoy comedies, you’ll love the banter between Anita and the other Shark Girls during “America” and the hilarious interaction between the Jets and Officer Krupke. There really is something fabulous for everyone in this show, which makes it a date night that both of you will enjoy!
